BOLC 2

So it is finally happening, we really are on our way to Flight School. Tel left for Bolc 2 Saturday morning. So he is now at Fort Sill, OK for the next 6 weeks. (side note: he ended up leaving sooner than expected originally he was suppose to leave Sunday morning so we ran out of time getting some things done, one of which was shaving his head. So during Tel's lay-over in Dallas, TX he shaved his head in the airport bathroom! Doesn't that seem like something Jason Borne would do? (if you don't know who Jason Borne is I pity you, but think...FBI, assasin, changing identies, etc)). He made it there and is going well- so far it seems like it is A LOT more relaxed than OCS (which is good and bad- good self explanatory, bad he has a lot of spare time so it may not go as fast...) Another good thing is that a guy from UT that did OCS with Tel is also there in the same class so he at least knows someone already.

The plan from now is that he will return Nov. 21 or 22. We will come down there on the 22nd to take family pictures then we will head off to Fort Rucker, AL. We are suppose to report there on Nov. 27.

If you are interested Tel's address at Fort Sill, OK is:
Lt. Tel Guymon
PO Box 825 C co PLP #2
Fort Sill, OK 73503-5805

Thanks for the good time this weekend

I had a blast, so I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who donated your time and food to the party this weekend... I think it is so fun to hang out with everyone!

And a HUGE shout-out to Paul for letting us use Jezebel and for being the driver ALL DAY!!!! Not a fun job for you, but certainly appreciated.

Baby Gatlin is here! He has been in the NICU up until now but has really started to improve. His breathing is just fine and he has nursed successfully twice today. Pretty much, we aren't sure why they insist on keeping him in there any longer. We are so thrilled that he is doing so well! Hopefully we'll all be home soon. Love you all!

Since no one ever reads my blog...

I thought you might be interested to see Rhian's new trick. She skipped scooting all together and went straight to crawling.

She's like a high-stepping prancing pony.

(It's better with sound turned on.)

Party the weekend of the 21st!

So, I'll send an email also, since I think the blog is dying (no one seems to check it anymore), but we are planning to have a party the weekend of the 21st (whatever that Saturday is) at the Huntington Beach. Apparently, the water at Huntington Lake has dropped enough to reveal a nice sandy beach on the side near Angela's house. So bring your swimsuits and some kind of food and prepare to party like its the last weekend before school starts!

Psych

Sorry Amy, things have changed. The guy taking the flight school quota in October decided he was sick of waiting and joined active duty marines. Short version, quota now belongs to the one and only 2LT Tel Guymon. I leave October 4th to begin my ~1.5 year stint that will include the Initial Entry Rotary Wing training.
BOOYA.
And in case any were wondering, this is as certian as it can be. Utahs quota, me the only candidate, and to boot I just got the notice that I have been entered in the Army Training database.

Flight School

After 13 months of bugging the Army to get a date for flight school, they have assigned me to class 019 starting on March 7th. So, we'll be around for yet another 8 months. Since we are going to be here in October, Kristen is planning a trip to Lake Powell on the house boat. All are invited, spread the word. Let us know if anyone is interested and we can return more information.

Family Reunions Rock!

I just wanted to say thanks to Brett & Kristy for planning a fantastic family reunion. Too bad they never read this blog, so they will never read my thanks!!!

Also, I just wanted to let everyone know that I got some serious sympathy for the bruise on my arm. Everyone thinks I am so hard-core... if only they knew I was cowering in the bushes from a couple 13 year-olds when I got it. :)

Amy's Wedding

Here's some happy memories to make everyone's day :)! PS Amy- I found them I have 44 pictures from the reception, but I don't actually have any from the temple, sorry. I hope that helps. I will bring a CD to the reunion.

You are all officially invited....

Tel & I are planning an adult (and newborns) trip to Jackson Hole, and you are all officially invited. The tentative plan is to leave Bear River on Friday, July 17 at 5pm and then you can come back either Saturday night or Sunday morning. We were thinking we would do an Amazing Race on the way up there on Friday. Then Saturday we would play (either raft, hike, bike, kayak, etc...if you have any suggestions, let me know). So come and play with us!

Good news for Heather and Tom!!!

Congratulations to Heather and Tom--they're now among the employed! They both start this morning (June 2) for Nielson's. Heather is doing accounts receivable (I think), and Tom is driving cement truck (that's pretty frightening!) Happy for both!!!!!!!!

Incidentally, I can't remember all of the awards the Jr. High group received, but Tyler and Jessica and Leedan were all extremely oft-mentioned in the awards assembly--outstanding kids we have in this family--of course, how could they be otherwise with the gene pool we've got going? Jessica is the Studentbody President for next year, incidentally--fantastic!!!

We ALMOST have a date...

As some of you may know, we were "for sure" going to find out when Tel felt to flight school "on May 11th". Well after 10 days of no answer (Tel actually had a guy at work try calling Captain Smith to see if he was just screening Tel's calls- which we wasn't), he finally answered his phone. He told Tel that he had some dates for August! He also said that he was bargaining with some other people to see if he could get it sooner. However, Tel & I decided we like the idea of August. It will give us the summer to play (and not be so blasted hot in AL), Tel finishes another semester of MS classes in August, we will have time to sell the house, potty train Maverick, and work-out other issues. So Tel is going to call him Monday and tell him we will take the August date. Maybe, just maybe it will be for real this time...

Tomato-Basil Fettuccini

I don't really have anything to say, but just felt like saying "hi". So here is what we are having for dinner tonight. In hopes that it inspires you all to send me some dinner ideas :)

Ingredients:
1/4 C chopped onion (Tel has an "onion thing" so I use minced onions which works well too)
1 Tbsp dry basil or 6 fresh leaves,
chopped1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 C olive oil (it's healthier, but I usually just use canola oil)
3 1/2 C chopped tomatoes
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
12 oz fettuccini (I usually use a little less than 12 oz)
1/2 C grated parmesan cheese

Directions:Saute onion and garlic in oil. Chop tomatoes (use fresh or canned).Add tomatoes, basil, salt, & pepper to onion. Simmer 15-20 min. Cook fettuccini according to package, drain well. Immediately toss hot fettuccini with tomato-basil sauce. Enjoy!

Moment of emotion for Amy - please bear with me. I sure am proud to have a family that rallies around each other in times of crisis and hardship.

Heather Deserves Some Serious Worshipping for the Win!!!

Since nobody informed me that I actually won the NCAA thing, I am just announcing it with a request that all humble acknowledgements be posted ASAP so I can determine who I need to hunt down to make sure EVERYONE knows!!! And a request that someone reminds me next year when the trashing starts (I have such a bad memory, I am sure I will forget). Thanks to all you little people for your support, etc., etc, etc. (wave, wave, touch pearls).

Family Reunion

Anyone know when we will be having the Family Reunion? I need to get it on my schedule because it is filling up fast!

Chicken, Bacon, Ranch Pizza

Tom and I attempted to duplicate a chicken, bacon, ranch pizza that we've had from a pizza place before. It actually turned out pretty good! I seasoned some chicken with fajita seasoning and sauteed it. We used a light layer of ranch dressing in place of pizza sauce, diced up some bacon and cooked it, and cut some canadian bacon into smaller pieces. We sprinkled the chicken, bacon, and canadian bacon pieces over the ranch and topped it all off with some mozzarella cheese. We thought it was good and decided to share in case anyone wants to experiment for themselves. :)

HAG'S HOT PICKS WINS!!!!

What a disappointing year for trash talk... I didn't hear any. However, I do want everyone to know that Heather won the NCAA Tourney... yes, she beat Paul. And yes, she beat Brett, who was too chicken to even enter a bracket.

Actually, maybe I shouldn't be trash talking Brett in light of his recent disappointing news... Barbies & make-up, Brett. A family of girls is what you get for playing with both as a child. :)

Beware the babysitter that turns beautiful children into monsters! This is Haley, in case you're wondering.

Jeff and Joyce, make sure Haley sees this. She wanted me to send it to you guys.

Here is the picture of the Whirly Gig...Notice Jeff's new toy in the background.

Tel is a "survivior"...

That's right, ATK had major lay-offs today and Tel "survived" (as they call it) so he still has a job! YAY! However, still no flight date. Tel called and bugged Captain Smith again to see if they had any flight slots, but nope none. Capt. Smith is now thinking "May or June"...

OOPS!!!

OK--I confess--I misspelled RHIAN's name and couldn't figure out how to go and correct it--soooo, continuing---my good news is that RHIAN laughed out loud for me last week while I was at Heather's house......Amy will try to deny it, but it's just because she's jealous because she can't make her repeat the performance. However, we all know who's more trustworthy.....Mom, Amy....that's a no-brainer, right?

general gab & General Conference proposal?

Hey--it's soooo fun to read your posts! Yay, Amy for setting this up!!! My good news for the week is that Uncle Danny is now "stent-less" (they removed it last Monday) and "brace-less" (they gave him the OK to go without it last Monday, also). He feels like a free man--except that he's not too fond of going to therapy, but he's going (albiet reluctantly--"I'll just ease into doing the stuff I usually do" NOT!!!) so I nag him constantly and he does the therapy thing. He's actually doing amazingly well--except it's pretty funny to see the difference in the size of his arms--he's been lifting the bales when we feed with his left arm exclusively and his right arm hasn't had any action to speak of in 7+ weeks--and it's VERY evident!!! Oh--my other good news is that there are 14 daffodils blooming in the flower bed out front--but who's counting?

OK--my proposal....we are planning to go down to Cedar Mountain this Sunday for part of the day...we're planning to watch the 1st hour of conference here at home, then listen to the second hour enroute to the Cedar Mountain picnic area (it takes about that long to get there if you drive conservatively & yes, you can get radio reception all the way, we checked), then let the kids hike and play while we get food set up; eat and clean up; play until next session; then I thought I'd maybe take some paints and water and wood stuff for the kids to paint during the afternoon session. Any of you who'd enjoy such an outing would be most welcome. (Yes, you can get radio reception down there--we checked to be sure!) Anyway--please call or email if you want to coordinate food and timing and such!

Oh--one last good news item--Rhyan

Belly Flop Winner!

Jessica won an awesome pair of goggles at the new Emery Co. pool last week for pulling off the most amazing (and painful I might add) belly flop. The Jr. High "top cats" were all there and I wish I would have been :) She said Morty called her "the Man". He also said her dad would have done the same thing. Nothing like feeding the fire ;)

the Whirly Gig

So, you all need to come visit our back yard and take a "turn" on the awesome new toy Jeff created. The kids have been begging him for a long time (my uncle made one in Wyoming) and when they refused to be paid for their last job because they wanted this built instead, what could he do. I'll post a picture soon.

A mommy "oops"

So yesterday we had a cleaning frenzy because we had some people schedule an appointment to come see the house at 4:30. Last I knew both kids were with Tel as I was finishing up by vacuuming. On the phone the couple had mentioned that they had a 4 yr old girl so I wanted Joselyn's room to look extra extra good. So as I was vacuuming I noticed a picture that Joselyn had drawn that I had taped on her closet (aka the little "house"), not wanting to distract from how cute the "house" was I grabbed it and crumbled it into a ball so I could throw it away. Then I heard a sweet voice say "Mommy, will you hang my picture back up." That's right, Joselyn had witness the whole thing. She was laying on her bed but I was so focused that I hadn't noticed her. I felt so horrible that of course I tried to flatten it back out and stuck it back on the closet. oops, I hope she isn't scarred for life...

PS the people really, really like it. Although, I've said it before, I will be utterly shocked if they don't make us an offer. (Let's just keep our fingers crossed that it's a decent offer, eh?)

Kids Schedule

Well, I hate to hear that Amy is disgruntled with being left out of the kids schedules so hear is an update on my childrens performances.
If you come any morning about 7:00 you can Kaden hollering down th stove pipe to let us all know he is awake and ready to feed the calfs, at 7:15 he will then comense hollering at the calfs as they eat. If you miss the performance tommorow you can probebly still get tickets for sunday.

Chante is putting on an exelent perfume show daily about 2:30 in the afternoon, if this is not a good time for you please inform Nancy as she could probebly let the performance last a bit longer before it begins to threaten the health of the attending audience.

Now that is what I call loyalty...

Both Angela and Kristen have Utah State taking it all. Some might call it stupidity... because you are my sisters, I call it loyalty.

Corbyn has CSU Northridge going all the way to the Elite 8. Now THAT I just call stupidity. :)

Just call me Grandma

Remember how Grandma & Grandpa used to always get mad that we never let them know about chorus concerts, track meets, etc.? Of course, I never had reason to let them know... even when they did come to Brett and my track meets, they would leave after Brett was done (before me). (That is what happens when you are just younger than the talented one in the family. Sniff.)

Well, anyway, Angela's comment on a former post made me want to once again stress a primary purpose of this blog: POST SCHEDULES OF THE KIDS ACTIVITIES!!!! I would love to be able to see Jessica or Melece or Tyler play basketball. Or Leedan or Daryl or Keldan wrestle. Or watch the whole family clog. (Which, by the way, I always wanted to do when I was growing up.)

So, help a sista out. Post a schedule.

March Madness

OK, so Paul didn't take my hint about creating a March Madness group, so I guess I have to. Here is our pool - be sure to enter BEFORE THURSDAY!!!!

http://tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com/t1/register/joinprivategroup_assign_team?GID=139258&P=guymon

This is prime trash-talking ammo, so SIGN UP ALREADY!!! (Except the peace makers in the family... if you don't like to trash talk, please don't sign up. I assume if you sign up, you are ok with insults about your picks and I don't want to offend anyone.)

Let the games begin...

A really delicious and fast S'more.

Here is my recipe - take a graham cracker and put some chocolate on it. Nuke for 30 seconds. Put a marshmallow on top of that and nuke for another 15 seconds. (The marshmallow gets huge, which adds a little entertainment.) Put another graham cracker on top and smash the enormous marshmallow. You now have a delicious S'more in less than 1 minute.

*Warning: using this recipe too often may make you fat.

Cheesy Chicken Skillet Dinner

So I have idea, whenever you have a recipe you are willing to share post it so we can all enjoy! I made this last night and it was so simple to make, but delicious! (Then label the post "recipies" so we can search for them later).

Ingredients
1 tsp oil
1 1/4 lb chicken cut up into pieces
2 cups carrots (sliced)
1 medium zucchini (sliced)
2 TBSP soy sauce
8 med green onions (sliced, 1/2 cup)
2 cups cheddar cheese

Directions
Heat 12 inch skillet over med-high heat. Add oil and chicken- stir fry 4-5 minutes or until no longer pink in center. Remove from skillet.

Add carrots & zucchini to skillet, stir fry 4-5 minutes or until crisp tender. Add chicken & soy sauce; toss until chicken & veggies are coated with soy sauce.

Sprinkle with onions & cheese. Cover skillet until cheese is melted.

I heard the baby's heartbeat yesterday! Even though it's the third baby, it still just thrills me to hear it. As far as we know, the baby is doing well.

Tom would probably want me to inform you all that we brought five dairy bull-calves home and are now bottle feeding each of them. Sure hope it goes well!

How annoying am I?

OK, so don't answer that question. But, between me and the people already signed up on the blog, I keep spamming the family members who haven't signed up yet with invitations to sign up. And I am going to keep doing it until they sign up. Because the people who haven't signed up yet are too nice to tell me to knock it off.

I am so funny.

March Madness and Motocross racing

So, first of all, Paul - you going to send out a March Madness pool again? I think you should... I totally love it, even if I know nothing about college basketball.

Secondly, because I requested everyone else do this, I am going to follow my own suggestion: Corbyn has a Arenacross Race in Heber on Saturday, if anyone is interested. It is indoor and cold, so they tend to keep the doors partially shut, so come prepared to kill a couple million brain cells from exhaust and gas fumes. (Corbyn has actually forbidden me from coming until Rhian is older. I guess he thinks I can't afford to lose any brain cells.) Added benefit - you could always drop in to see Aunt Kay while you are there. (Kristen, perhaps you can take your scanner.)
Maybe you have already heard about this, but just thought I'd let you know that Tom has really enjoyed his student teaching. It's been so much better than his internship at Manti. He's thinking he'd like to continue teaching, but there probably won't be any job openings for a while. Guess we'll see what happens.

It was good to see you, Heather and kids, even though it was only for a second at church.

Have a happy day everyone!

Choosing a Name

I guess maybe I should have used Goldie instead...but then Heather would have been Silvie and Amy would have been Bronzie and then there would have been a fight over why I always get to be Goldie--even though now I think Bronzie is the coolest of the three...

Funny Story

So last week for Sharing Time they talked about the Father's role (I'm sure most of you know this, anyways...) So they had the kids write a note/draw a picture for their dad and then when they got home they were suppose to hide it in a pair of their dad shoes. Today they asked the kids "So who can tell us about hiding the note for their dad?" Joselyn blurted out "My dad sent me to TIME OUT!"

The real story...we got home from church and Tel had made dinner (Brooklynn & Maverick were sick so they didn't go to church). Tel told Joselyn to set the table, but she went to hide her note first. So since she didn't listen to him, he set her to timeout!

Thursday, March 5, 2009

OK--SO I'M SLOW TO FIGURE THIS OUT!!!!! You know the story about old dogs and new tricks? Well, not-so-old-canine sometimes have the same problem! My news is that Uncle Danny is finally feeling much better!!!! Hurrah!!!!!! It was the blessing last Sunday and your fasting and prayers, I know, so thanks a ton to all of you!!! Also--I thought I'd brag for Leedan--he was chosen outstanding male vocal soloist for region Jr. High Solo & Ensemble. Jessica performed a piano solo and a flute duet and did a terrific job on both!!! (We taped their performances, but haven't figured how to upload them yet). Also, Taigon received his Arrow of Light award last Friday--which is fantastic. Oh--and Melece had pneumonia in both lungs, but it doing much better; and Keldan developed blood poisoning from a cut on his hand, but is doing better; and Jessica continues with a bout of laryngitis (spelling?) but hopefully is improving. OK--that's about all that I know. Well--maybe a funny about Leedan....Ferd told him he'd give extra credit if he stayed after school and helped with Jr. Wrestling, so he stayed to help (it's really hard to believe he'd prefer that to writing reports, I know, but...) Anyway--he went the first day to help and the guy in charge kept sending him off to wrestle--insisting that he needed to find a partner and practice. (He thought he was one of the little guys who was signed up to wrestle.) OK--it doesn't sound funny on paper, but it was funny when he told it. I told him maybe he'd better wear a sign specifying that he's in 8th grade. One last tidbit--this is fantibulous!!!! There are 9 tiny little yellow crocus blooming in my flowerbed! Woooooohoooooo! Spring has arrived!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love to you all!
Okay so here is my maiden run on the whole blog scene. Hope this works.

Babies are so cute!

Corbyn's Motocross Action

Hi guys - Just thought you all might be interested to know that thus far this year, Corbyn is undefeated in his motocross racing. Here is one of his races:

Wait- who is Queen Bee?

Mom - is that you? I am going to be extremely disappointed in all the kids if Mom has managed to become Web 2.0 before any of the rest of you...

Thursday, February 26, 2009

I just want to say that I'm a huge fan of the blog thing. I'm usually the only one who writes on the one my family started, but I'm betting you guys will be more involved so it won't end up being the Nancy blog. I love to hear everyone's news and hope you will all keep sharing!

Tel Guymon Family Update

Here's some pictures from Rhian's baby blessing! Quick update: Brooklynn is now 6 months old!!! She LOVES to eat. She looks like a little bird when she eats because she opens her mouth as wide as possible. She can sit, but she loves to wiggle so it doesn't last long. She is beginning to scoot backwards when she is on her belly because she kicks so much.
A funny story, so yesterday Tel found a Bearhawk airplane (it's one of his dream airplanes that he hopes to build some day) that is 85% finished and for sale for a killer price. So Tel was trying to figure out what he could sale in order to get the money to pay for it. So he was listing everything "he" owns- his plane, his truck, his bike, his guns, etc. When he mentioned guns, Joselyn got very concerned and said "No daddy, DON'T SELL THE GUNS!"
And yes Angela, you can join the Layton High Track Team (as long as you do your work-outs and submit them back into me each week)! And yes technically Amy I do have 4 jobs (mom, carone fitness, heritage makers, and now track), but the beauty is that I've paused the "carone fitness" & "heritage makers" for the next to months. I also am going to have a student manager who is strictly just in charge of watching the kids during practice. They love playing outside so this counts as the time we would have been just playing outside anyway (and my exercise time too). And yes Marie, we are hoping that by getting involved with things that it will speed up the flight slot thing. We "waited around" last year afraid to do anything because we "might" be gone. Finally, we both got sick of "waiting" to live our lives. So when I heard that they didn't have a coach and were going to send the athletes to a rival school to workout I couldn't let it happen. My experience of competing in track and field in High School was so full of special moments & learning experiences that I felt like it was my turn to "pay it forward". Life around here may get a little crazy for the next two months, but I will get to live one of my "dreams". Then we will be off to AL to live Tel's dream for two years. Even if Tel got a call saying he was leaving tomorrow, the track season would be finished before I was expected to be in AL so I think we are "safe". So there you have it, my "Why?"

The first post

I don't really have any news - I just wanted to be the first one.
